Fellows
Purpose
Bring together faculty in the social and
behavioral sciences to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas
across disciplinary boundaries; to enhance the research efforts of faculty
members; and to enhance the ability of eminent scholars to obtain extramural
funding.
Eligibility
University of Georgia faculty who have
a history of extramural research grant funding.
Program
Fellows become active members of the
Institute by attending seminars, exchanging ideas, conducting their
own research,
writing grant proposals, and pariting grant proposals, and participating
in one or more of five centers or study groups (Center
for Family Research, Center
for Research on Behavioral Health and Human Services Delivery,
Center for Integrative Conservation Research, Community, Ethnicity, & Identity in Context Group, Effective Intervention and Prevention Program Group, Migration Group, Violence Group and the Gene-Environment
Interaction Work Group). Formats vary, but typically members
of each Center/Study Group meet formally or informally throughout
the year to discuss recent
scholarly work, review research proposals, and exchange information about
grant writing and grant proposals. Supplementing these meetings
are regular
IBR seminars, conferences featuring nationally recognized speakers, the
annual William A. Owens Lecture, and workshops on research techniques
and
statistical methods.
Fellows typically receive some support
for their research efforts through the Institute. Additional benefits
of the Institute include a Ph.D. level statistician who is available
for consultation and to help with a wide range of data analytic
problems. Skilled administrative personnel provide assistance in
the submission and management of grants, including budgetary issues,
and offer accounting services once grants are funded.
Fellows are expected to attend
IBR events, continue their scholarly work, and submit a grant proposal
for external funding or have an ongoing grant. Appointments are
for one year, but are renewable.
