As a natural resource anthropologist,
I am interested in the underlying sociocultural and demographic
forces which shape people's decision-making toward agriculture
and the environment. Ongoing projects involve research among
four ethnic groups living around the Cotacachi-Cayapas Ecological
Reserve in northwestern Ecuador, a study of landraces biodiversity
preservation in the American South, and the development of information
databases on potato and peanut. In addition, I have a long-term
research relationship with the International Centre for Integrated
Mountain Development in Kathmandu, Nepal, where a major project
on environmental characterization of the Hindu-Kush Himalayan
region is just getting underway.
