My
recent research focuses on the development of multilevel
theoretical models of racial and ethnic differences in
violence, with emphasis on family, school, and community
contexts. My work has also examined the impact of public
housing on neighborhood crime patterns, labor market
effects on delinquency, and the processes that sustain
stratification by race/ethnicity and place in urban areas.
I plan to extend this research beyond urban settings
and to a more detailed analysis of contextual influences
(structural & cultural) on family
processes/resources and, in turn, child outcomes including
mental health, academic success, and involvement in delinquency
and substance use.
