My work focuses on translating
basic research on the individual and contextual factors that
predict high risk behavior into prevention programming. I focus
on African American youth and emerging adults in rural areas.
At present, drug abuse, HIV and other imminent threats to rural
African Americans which escalate during the transition to adulthood.
I am currently conducting basic research into correlates of
protective sexual behavior and intend to develop a program for
emerging adults who are not in school. A concurrent interest
involves recruiting and retaining hard to reach populations
into research studies and prevention programs.
