My research
branches into three streams. The first consists of a comparative
study of careers in life course perspective, examining
what people do, and what people think about what they do.
The second consists of a comparative study of undergraduate
attrition at U.S. research universities. The third consists
of a study of identity-formation among undergraduates,
their academic and social integration in college, and the
trajectories and turning points of their college lives.
Each of the three streams is propelled by a central current:
the study of lives in social context. Each also pays special
attention to the major contexts of occupation and education
in how lives are patterned and experienced.
