My research focuses on linguistic, academic, and sociocultural aspects of adolescent immigrant experiences in school settings, with particular attention to factors contributing to high school graduation and college enrollment. I am also interested in how societal images of immigrant race, ethnicity, class, and gender are taken up and manifested in classroom communication. My current research is a longitudinal investigation of the schooling paths of middle and high school Latino students in a college readiness program for at-risk youth.
