My research
focuses on the role of family stress in disrupting parenting
processes and child psychosocial adjustment, as well as
on parenting interventions. I utilize longitudinal research
designs to examine family stressors such as HIV status
of parents, divorce, and interparental conflict. Based
on findings from these projects, I also am interested in
developing and evaluating prevention/ intervention programs
for parents and children in these families. I currently
am involved in a multi-site project to teach parenting
skills and effective ways to communicate about health and
risky sexual lifestyles to parents of pre-adolescent children.
