I examine variables that influence mathematics achievement and the development of mathematics strategies in early elementary school age children. These variables include fluency, metacognitive knowledge, motivation and spatial skills. I also examine how parents, teachers, and peers infuence early mathematics strategy use and the impact of gender on strategy use.
